Alan Kennedy
Alan is probably best remembered for his goals, which helped the most successful ever Liverpool team to win 2 European Cups in 1981 and 1984. He is still the only Englishman to have scored 2 European Cup winning goals, against Real Madrid in 1981 and AS Roma in 1984.
Alan's football career started in 1972 when he signed as a professional with Newcastle United and made his league debut as an eighteen year old in 1973.
He played nearly 200 games for the Magpies, including the 1974 Cup Final against Liverpool and the 1976 League Cup Final against Manchester City.
In August 1978, Bob Paisley broke the British transfer fee for a full back when he paid £300,000 for Alan. During his 7-year spell ay Anfield, he played over 350 games and won a haul of honours that helped him achieve 14 major winners medals in his career!
In 1985 Alan returned to his native North East and joined Laurie McMenemy at Sunderland for two years, followed by spells at Huskvarna in Sweden, Beerschot in Belgium and club 1903 of Denmark.
His seventeen-year career as a pro, ended at Wrexham in 1990 following a knee injury. It was here that he played his 500th game in the League.
Alan is now a very popular figure on the after dinner speaking circuit and also a radio host/summariser for Century FM in the North West. He holds a full coaching badge and has been running his successful Soccer Schools for children for eight years now.
